More to come!

LEMONADE OUT OF LEMONS Despite the challenge of the national tree disease that has forced us to take down several hundred trees on our property; we are transforming many of the trunks into “log benches” for the Tombstone and Tipi fire circles as well as several other strategic locations around camp.

WEATHER OR NOT Many of you might know that Mitch is a weather enthusiast. In addition to his Mansion rooftop weather station that monitors lightning warnings and detection, anemometer (wind), altimeter (altitude), temperature, humidity, and rainfall, we have now added a Wet Bulb Temperature (WBGT) monitor to our toolkit, which measures the heat stress in direct sunlight. This fall, Mitch, Mendy and Lauren attended a conference on climate effects on camping. This new WBGT will help us make smarter decisions on when to consider modifying activities (and the new Pavilion comes in handy adding to our long list of indoor or covered spaces).

Fun Fact: While at our climate conference, we realized that Camp Towanda’s unique altitude in the Pocono Mountains keeps our climate (and campers) cooler than other camps in our region!

HEY I. I mean, A.I.!!! We also attended a conference on AI and how/if it can help at camp.  Well, let me tell you—AI cannot replace Mitch’s Late Night Emails to the parents!!  Of course, I could tell it to throw in some typos and bad jokes!!

However, we will be experimenting with AI to “help” us balance and implement our multi-faceted and extensive programming schedule. Could be fun!!

There's so much more in 2024!
